I bought the LivingSocial a while back, and had been itching for a time to use it. Last night my wife and I had an event to attend downtown, and it seemed like the perfect opportunity. We got there a little before 7. Street parking was easy to find.

The restaurant felt very classy, and it felt more upscale than many of the sushi establishments I've eaten at. That being said, seeing the restaurant was the highlight of the visit.

We were asked to pick our own seat, and the waiter accompanied us. He presented our menus and took drink orders. I ordered a soda, and was surprised when he brought me an 8oz bottle of Coke and a glass with ice. The first thought through my mind when seeing it is memories of dining out in Germany. The second was the idea that there are no free refills. I didn't mind, and later found out this was a top tip on Foursquare.

We took a couple minutes to read over the entire sushi menu, and the waiter checked on us three times, asking if we were ready and had any questions. While this might have been nice if I was a new sushi eater, I'm not, and we just felt rushed to order. We took our time despite, and made our selections.

Our sushi was out in no time. I honestly feel like it took us longer to order than to fulfill the order. We ordered a spicy shrimp roll and the found the spicy flavor wasn't really balanced throughout the entire roll, where some pieces were definitely hot and other pieces were bland.

This was also my first time getting an Ume roll. As described on the menu, this roll is made with pickled plum paste. I found it horribly bitter, and couldn't taste the plum over the pickling flavor. As this was my first time getting it, the flavor might have been spot on. That being said, I won't be ordering this from anywhere anytime soon.

We also got a couple other rolls, and while we didn't have a negative experience with them, they were rather flavorless.

I'm definitely not impressed with the food at Joss, and don't plan on going back. I expected much more when I walked in the door, and the food certainly just didn't deliver.
