Farms

Dragonfly Farms Wine Vinegary & Flower Farm 7670 Talbot Run
Mount Airy, MD 21771

Our Community Supported Agriculture program consists of two plans: #1-the traditional fruits and vegetables plan and #2-the Premium plan. These include weekly shares of fresh, quality products that are wholesome, minimally-processed, and locally-produced. These items come from a network of reliable, conscientious producers who not only strive to satisfy their customers needs but also believe in the good stewardship of their endeavors. By joining our CSA, members will take part in the support of local agriculture and contribute to the operation of our small farms. Premium shareholders will not only enjoy the benefits of locally-produced fruits and vegetables, but also, direct from the farm fresh flowers, artisanal bread, cheese, honey, fresh roasted fair trade gourmet coffee, authentic slow-fermented wine vinegar, and farm fresh eggs from humanely-treated hens. We are committed to providing quality and work with a network of farms to ensure the shareholder satisfaction.

Without your support, local farms would not be able to maintain the high costs of sustainable farming or integrated pest management (IPM). At Dragonfly Farms, we practice a no-spray policy for our black currants, tomatoes, peppers, squash, greens, cucumbers, employ companion planting, and the use of row cover for pest management for our squash, herbs, and zucchini. Best of all, our fresh-cut flowers are pesticide-free, long-lasting, and naturally beautiful.

Our bread and cheese are made by local artisans daily; honey comes from small, local producers; our gourmet coffee is roasted locally. With our Premium CSA, members receive a dozen fresh eggs every other week. These are from humanely treated, farm-raised hens, with a natural diet of greens by a local Frederick county, MD farmer.

FireFly Farms 1363 Brenneman Road
Bittinger, MD 21522

FireFly Farms formed when a small group of friends decided to join forces and enter the world of domestic goat cheese making.

Since its inception in 2002, FireFly Farms artisan goat's milk cheeses have received 28 individual national and international awards for excellence.

FireFly Farms is dedicated to the art of cheese making. FireFly Farms artisanal goat cheeses are made according to time-honored tradition -- they are produced and ripened with handmade care. We take special care to ensure the purity, quality, and clean flavor of our milk. Our aged cheeses are ripened in a specially constructed aging room -- we shun short cuts and artificial techniques aimed at increasing yield or shelf life at the expense of taste and quality.

At FireFly Farms, we believe in the interdependence of people with one another and with our environment, and we are committed to caring for the land and protecting biodiversity for today's communities and future generations.

Our goal is to produce local food for our region while caring for our land, vegetables, animals and community. We strive to create a truly sustainable farm, both agriculturally and financially.

What We Do
Flying Plow Farm grows non-certified organic vegetables year round. Our produce is available for sale through our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), the region's farmers' markets and our on-farm summer and winter market.

In addition to vegetables, grass-fed beef and pastured poultry will be coming soon!

Roseda Black Angus Beef 15620 Carroll Road
Monkton, MD 21111

We carefully select and breed America's best Black Angus cattle. We graze them on lush green pastures and finish feeding them with grain. And we never add preservatives, hormones or growth stimulants.

We dry-age our beef for 14-21 days, then flash-freeze it to lock in its maximum flavor. We never add preservatives or artificial coloring.

So it’s only natural that Roseda beef will be the best you’ve ever tasted.

South Mountain Creamery 8305 Bolivar Road
Middletown, MD 21769

The taste is the best!

Farm-fresh, ice-cold South Mountain Creamery milk is simply the most wholesome, best tasting milk you can serve your family. Glass helps keep the milk colder and also doesn't give milk the "off taste" from plastic or cardboard containers.

We make life easy!

We'll deliver to your home each week, and while we'd love to say "Hi", you don't need to be there to receive delivery. Most customers leave coolers out on their front porches or we can even deliver to a garage refrigerator. You can pre-order online.

We deliver lots of good things!

We focus alot of attention on the best quality avaliable in all of our products. The dairy is carefully handled to ensure purity and a natural great taste. The beef is raised here on acres of green pastures. The cheese is either made here, or made locally from other small family operations.

We're good for you and the environment!

Go Green, Save on gas by reducing trips to the store.  Our milk tastes naturally better from a glass bottle and our returnable bottles are reusable. Paper and plastic supermarket milk containers clutter our landfills.   "The Glass is Always Greener "

OUR HERD IS NOT TREATED WITH GROWTH HORMONES (rBgh), or unneeded ANTIBIOTICS!

Springfield Farm 16701 Yeoho Road
Sparks, MD 21152

Springfield Farm is no ordinary place, and the Smith, Lafferty and Webb families are by no means traditional farmers. Three generations work and live on this beautiful, natural farm just north of Baltimore, Maryland.

Sustainable agricultural methods are practiced where the animals are given nothing which is not natural – no hormones, antibiotics, chemicals, etc. All animals are offered free-range during the grass growing season. In addition to chicken eggs, seasonal duck eggs and seasonal goose eggs, chicken, turkey, duck and seasonal goose are raised for meat. Beef (grass-fed and natural), grass-fed lamb, pork and rabbit are also available. All animals are treated humanely, allowed to associate with each other and cared for when sick using homeopathic remedies first.

All Springfield Farm marketing is direct to the user via personal visits and the website. Products are processed under inspection, but the most important inspectors are our customers whom we encourage to roam the farm freely. Please check with us before visiting the animals for a short orientation as we move them frequently and all fences are electrified.

Springfield Farm has been in David Smith’s family since the 1600’s. The farm is some 67 acres of rolling countryside in northern Baltimore County, Maryland with four natural streams and untold springs bubbling up everywhere (hence the name). There is also a pond dominated by our flock of pet ducks, geese (Mother and Grim, of course), and watched over by our peafowl.

The Choptank Oyster Company 6035 Castle Haven Road
Cambridge, MD 21613

Choptank Sweets, like many oyster varieties, take their named from the body of water in which they are grown. The Choptank is a major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay located on Maryland's Eastern Shore. It is a region with a rich history and tradition of oystering.

Choptank Sweets are a robust, meaty oyster with a rich creamy texture. They have a sweet buttery flavor with a clean crisp finish. The moderate salinity of the Choptank ensures that the flavor is not overburdened with saltiness, thus allowing the more subtle, and complex natural flavors of the oyster to be detected. The perfect oyster for any recipe that requires only the highest quality oysters in appearance, texture, and taste.

Choptank Sweets are available throughout the year, because they are an aquacultured oyster. Our oysters are not subject to the seasonal harvest restrictions of wild caught oysters.  Contrary to popular belief, oysters remain flavorful and can be enjoyed all year long.

All our oysters are grown away from the bottom in floats at the water's surface so they are free from sand and grit. Kept just below the surface there is an abundance of algae for the oysters to eat so they are always plump and healthy. Several times during their development they are pulled from their floats and sent through a tumbler that cleans and shapes the oysters. This helps to knock off barnacles, mussels, and other fowling organisms and create that sought after deep cupped shape. Each batch of oysters is power washed before being hand culled for size and appearance. They are then boxed, and placed directly into refrigeration, all within yards of the harvest site, to ensure maximum freshness.

Our oysters come from non-polluted waters that are regularly monitored by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to ensure that they are always safe for consumption. In addition to MDE monitoring, we perform our own weekly water quality tests. We are a HACCP certified seafood shipper and  licensed with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to grow shellfish.
