Favorite Spots to Celebrate Valentine's Day

Whether you adore or abhor the holiday that shrouds the stores in red and pink for the better part of February, there is no denying that it is nearly upon us. We picked out a few of our favorite spots to celebrate your love (or lack thereof) on Valentine’s Day.



B&O American Brasserie


This intimate, classy spot located in Hotel Monaco is offering a three course fixed menu for $69 with a $30 wine pairing option Friday through Sunday of Valentine’s Day weekend. First course offerings include the likes of a foraged mushroom and onion brodo and a winter root vegetables with shaved speck and warm pine nut vinaigrette while mains include creative preparations of lobster, Wagyu beef, chicken, and duck confit. The third course offers a Manhattan black forest torte with a kirsch mousse and a pina colada sundae, flambéed tableside.


Waterfront Kitchen


Boasting one of the most impressive waterfront views in the city, Waterfront Kitchen is offering a three-course fixed menu from February 12th - 14th for $65 per person with optional wine pairings for an additional $45. Chef Chris Amendola is serving several options per course. Oysters on the half shell with a housemade pickle mignonette or roasted pork belly are some of the choices for the first course while entrees range from a vegetarian-friendly heirloom grain risotto with parsnips, kale, and roasted mushrooms to pan roasted rockfish with fennel, glazed beets, yogurt and borscht, as well as chicken and steak options. Desserts include a selection of ice creams, honey and coffee glazed doughnuts, and chocolate truffle cake.

Le Garage


This hip Hampden spot is offering an affordable four course menu for $55 that includes innovative plates like rabbit and sweetbread crepinette, grilled octopus tartine, and mushroom and miso pâté for starters. Beef tartare, heart of gold squash soup, and salt roasted pear salad grace the second course menu while the mains include grilled beef cheeks with beet dashi and red cabbage sauerkraut, chicken roulade with ricotta dumplings and wild mushrooms, scallops sporting a caviar beurre blanc, and braised Catoctin Mountain pork and clams in an harissa broth with fregola and braised fennel. Desserts range from a light raspberry sorbet with candied berries to a warm sticky bun for two or a chocolate croissant bread pudding, also for both.


Dovecote Cafe


This Reservoir Hill cafe has seatings at 6 pm and 8 pm for its affordable $80 per person four course Valentine’s Day service on February 14th. Salad and soups make up the first two courses with entrees including choices of rainbow trout with roasted cauliflower and sautéed asparagus, skirt steak with french beans, pureed horseradish, parsnip, and au jus, roasted chicken corn pudding and a vegan dish of brussel sprouts, and stuffed acorn squash with barley and herb oil. Dessert is a chocolate molten cake served a la mode


Wine Market Bistro


Visit on Saturday and enjoy either the $65 fixed menu or seasonal a la carte options, while Sunday is dedicated solely to the prix-fixe menu that includes cornmeal fried oysters, mussels with Spanish chorizo, confit garlic, shallots, pork broth, and grilled bread, salmon tartare with cucumber, shallots, and hoisin yuzu vinaigrette, and pickled baby beet deviled eggs in the first course, soups and salads in the second, and a variety of entrees including steak, chicken, monkfish, and salmon prepared with a variety of innovative ingredients. Finish with coffee cake bread pudding with crème fraiche, ice cream, and espresso powder, cinnamon bun doughnuts with a vanilla cream cheese drizzle, or buttermilk panna cotta with banana chips and candied bacon

Wit and Wisdom


Wit & Wisdom has just kicked off its newest ongoing wine education and tasting event, Cellar Sessions, consisting of two-hour long classes with Lead Sommelier Julie Dalton who shares information on trends, history, and pairings in line with each event’s theme.


On Saturday, February 13th, the theme is Valentine’s Day-inspired wines with a focus on six wines evocative of aphrodisiac-like ingredients alongside small bites prepared by Chef Zack Mills. For more information, visit cellarsessionsatwit.eventbrite.com.


Serpent Ridge


Instead of heading out for a formal meal, stop in to this vineyard just south of the city for a casual afternoon with a plate of chocolates from local chocolatier Dream of Chocolates paired with a glass of wine for $15.


Royal Rabbit Vineyard


Pop into this Parkton vineyard and celebrate Valentine’s Day with BOGO wine tasting and an exclusive tasting of a special release dry rose available only to Valentine’s visitors.



For those that are not that excited about the holiday, there are options around town as well. Here are a couple of our picks.


Louie Bar


Housed in Ware House 518, and paying homage to the jazz bar that once occupied this Mt. Vernon spot, Louie Bar shakes and stirs some of the best cocktails in the neighborhood. On February 12th, Chelsea Gregoire of Drinkable Genius will take over the spot featuring beverages made with mead from Charm City Meadworks and utilizing ingredients from True Syrups & Garnishes for their event The Bitter Heart Club: An Anti V-Day Takeover.


Running from 9 pm - midnight the event will feature a menu of anti-cupid craft cocktails ranging from $9 - $11 including:


The Alanis Punch {Isn’t Punch Ironic}: Rosemary Mead, House Honey Cordial, True Tonic Syrup and Chamomile    


The Tiki-inspired “Bleeding Hearts of the World, Unite!”: Sweet Blossom Mead, Local Rum,           Bitter Falernum, Blood Orange and the Louie Bar Tiki Bitters        


A Black Heart Old Fashioned: Cinnamon Mead, Xicaru Mezcal, Jeppson’s Malört and Black Walnut            Bitters 


The Tinder Special: A choose your own adventure in which guests select from a base spirit and mead style, with a secret ingredient as a “Super Like” addition.



Life of Reilly


On Friday, February 12th at 8 pm, Life of Reilly will host an Anti-Valentine’s Day Date Auction for singles with proceeds benefiting BARCS. The bar will offer food and drink specials all night as well as prize giveaways and a first drink free for ladies.

Mad River Baltimore
