Valentine's Day in Charm City

Jennifer Waldera

Charm City is exploding with ways to charm the love of your life (or, you know, the love of right now) on Valentine’s Day. From decadent chocolate and local wine in a casual environment, to aphrodisiac inspired menus at upscale spots, we’ve rounded up just a few of the places to settle in to enjoy the evening.

Wine Market

What says Valentine’s Day better than a little wooing over wine? One of the best venues for vino in Baltimore, with a full shop attached to the restaurant, the Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu ($68 per person/$30 more for wine pairings) on the 13th and 14th includes four courses with the likes of oysters or oxtail ragu in the first course, and creative salads or wild mushroom soup in the second. For mains, choose from hanger steak, lamb shoulder, escarole ravioli, or pan seared rockfish, all with colorful sides like curried chickpeas, broccoli puree, or kale barley risotto. Sweets for the fourth course include a decadent chocolate cake with peanut butter pudding and caramel sauce, white chocolate cheesecake with raspberry jam and sweet potato bread pudding with pecan toffee and chocolate bark.

Hard Rock Cafe

Celebrate a day early with chocolate and wine on February 13th at this Inner Harbor spot with an unexpected Valentine’s event. The knowledgeable Leslie Frelow from Vino 301 Wine Concierge will guide a pairing of some of the best Maryland wines with decadent chocolates from Cockeysville’s Parfections from 7-9 pm.

Unable to make it for the tasting? Hard Rock is also offering some special menu items from February 9th through the 14th including:

●     Grilled Norwegian Salmon-  Fire grilled Norwegian salmon glazed with sweet and sticky sauce, herb-spiked red potatoes and fire grilled vegetables

●     Cracked Noodles with Roasted Vegetables – Artisan pasta tossed in a lemon butter sauce with fire roasted asparagus, peppers, wilted spinach and vine ripened tomatoes

●     Surf & Turf – Churrasco grilled skirt steak crowned with jumbo shrimp scampi and served with herb-spiked red potatoes and fire vegetables

The Prime Rib at Maryland Live! Casino

The Prime Rib is well known as the very most upscale restaurant for the best beef in Baltimore. Now, also located at the Maryland Live! Casino in Anne Arundel County, they are still serving up fancy fare. Go to gamble too, or just to dine, but this steak spot is offering a quality prix fixe Valentine’s Day dinner for $80:

●      1st Course: Lobster Bisque; Butternut Squash

●      2nd Course: Blue Point Oysters on the half; Caesar Salad; Shrimp Cocktail

●      3rd Course: Chateaubriand and Lobster

●      4th Course: Warm Liquid Center Dark Chocolate Cake; Tuille’s Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Wit and Wisdom

Wit and Wisdom’s Zack Mills creates some superb noshes in this popular Four Seasons’ housed bar/lounge/restaurant, but we are particularly excited about their newest embrace of champagne. Now, sommelier Julie Dalton is following the lead of Corkbuzz Wine Studio in NYC and offering champagne at half price after 10 pm every night of the week. Valentine’s Day is no exception, and the classy cocktail bar will also have a DJ on hand for the night as well.
