Black Ankle Vineyards and Grilled Cheese & Co Wine Pairing

Ann Marie Brokmeier

This weekend, I went to an event at Black Ankle Vineyard that had my two favorite things: wine and grilled cheese. That’s right, a wine & grilled cheese pairing! The sandwiches were provided by the mouthwatering Grilled Cheese & Co.

Black Ankle, like many local vineyards, holds various events throughout the year to bring in local wine lovers (and in this case, grilled cheese lovers) to try out their goods and to enjoy wine tastings, food pairings, live music, vineyard tours, and even a knitting workshop.

We received three glasses of wine and three grilled cheese pairings. The original menu read as: a 2011 Passeggiata wine paired with a grilled cheese made of Smoked Gouda, Apple Butter and Peppered Bacon, a 2010 Rolling Hills paired with a grilled cheese made of Fresh Mozzarella and Asiago, Basil Pesto, Roma Tomatoes finished with a balsamic glaze, and a 2010 Leaf Stone Syrah paired with a grilled cheese made of Fresh Buffalo Mozzarella, Asiago Cheese, Hard Italian Salami and drizzled with a Balsamic Glaze. While all of this sounds delicious (and my omnivorous friends loved them), I am vegetarian and knew I wouldn’t be able to eat the sandwiches with meat. Barbry was our contact at Black Ankle;  she was extremely accommodating and provided me with meatless options! Not to mention, Grilled Cheese & Co. added a surprise strawberry cheesecake dessert slider at the end for everyone. The service was fantastic, the surroundings were lovely and the actual food & drink was incredible.

Grilled Cheese & Co. has four locations (Catonsville, Sykesville, Baltimore/Federal Hill, and Raven’s Walk inside of M&T Bank Stadium). They’ve been serving grilled cheese to Maryland since 2010 and you can walk in to any restaurant, order online, get bike delivery (at the Federal Hill location), or get your event catered. You can connect with them on Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Twitter.

Black Ankle wine can be found not only at the vineyard located in Mt Air, and on Facebook and Twitter, but also at these local Baltimore restaurants, wine bars, and liquor stores:
