Baltimore Farmers' Market & Bazaar Opens for 2013

Ann Marie Brokmeier

The true onset of a Baltimore Spring isn’t whether or not Punxsutawney Phil sees his shadow, or even what temperature it is outside. Spring only truly comes to Charm City when the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar opens. This year, that highly-awaited day falls on Sunday, April 7th and it is sure to be a great time. Everything from years past can be expected: hula hooping, hot fluffy doughnuts, fresh local produce, and vendors upon vendors hawking goods you came for and goods you didn’t even know you needed yet.

This year, the Farmers’ Market & Bazaar will add three new urban farms, all of which bring something fresh to the table. The Farm Alliance of Baltimore City normally grows & sells at the lovely 32nd Street Waverly Farmers’ Market on Saturdays, but is now branching out to the Sunday market, and they’re bringing their CSA along with them. Big City Farms provides its produce “ultra-locally” and distributes fresh and organic produce within only 24 hours of harvest. Five Seeds Farm is a family-owned hybrid city/country farm and when you sign up for their CSA this year, you will receive one free pound of local honey.

Pick up a warm breakfast sandwich, a cup of fresh Zeke’s coffee and enjoy the stroll through the food-filled maze. Stop by your old, reliable vendors, try something new, and maybe even sign up for a CSA while you’re there. Happy Spring and enjoy the 2013 season of the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar!

The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar runs every Sunday (from 7am to noon) from April 7, 2013 until December 22, 2013. You can find it under the Jones Fall Expressway overpass on the corners of Holliday and Saratoga Streets. Stay updated via their Facebook page or their Twitter account.
