Sante: Spoil Your Palate

Ryan Rom

Last year it took you on an ‘Epicurean Adventure’.  This year it’s back and gearing up to ‘Spoil Your Palate’.  That’s right Baltimore, it’s Santé!  Benefiting the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, Santé is the premiere food pairing event bringing together Baltimore’s best chefs and cuisine and matching them with the best wine, craft beer and spirits; all in a spectacular venue.

The B&O Railroad Museum is the place to be on Saturday, April 2nd, 2011.  You’ll sample foods from area restaurants such as B&O American Brasserie, Bistro RX, Clementine, Ciao Bella, Looney’s, 5 Points Tavern, and RA Sushi.  Wash down the amazing spread with your choice of beverages from favorites such as Heavy Seas Brewery, Black Ankle Vineyards and Van Gogh Vodka.

Brendan Dorr of B&O Brasserie is the head bartender.  I know from experience that he is one of the most innovative mixologists around.  I had the honor of attending a tequila event where Brendan created and served the drink menu and it was amazing.  I saw tequila used in ways I didn’t know were possible.  At Santé Brendan is presenting ‘Eggs Are Not Taboo in Cocktails.’  He’s guaranteed to show you something you’ve never seen before so don’t miss your chance to enjoy his creations!

Another highlight will certainly be Hugh Sisson, proprietor of Heavy Seas Beer (brewed right off Hollins Ferry Road in Baltimore) doing his presentation ‘Successfully Pairing Craft Beer with Cheeses’.  Most people have been a part of Wine and Cheese pairings, but Sisson will show you that beer can be just as versatile.   I’m psyched because not only do I enjoy their Loose Cannon Ale year round, I also seek out Heavy Seas’ seasonals.  My personal favorite is their October brew: The Great Pumpkin 8.5% ABV (or if you’re feeling daring, the GREAT’ER Pumpkin at 9% ABV!).

In addition to the food and drink, there will be a Silent Auction with tons of great items to bid on and live music.  Lasting from 7 -10 PM, tickets are $65 in advance and $75 at the door so be sure to buy them early!  To purchase your tickets and get more information go to www.SanteBaltimore.com
